Special Projects

Thorne Island

For special projects, FIVE provide comprehensive architectural services tailored to complex, long-term restorations such as the five-year transformation of Thorne Island, a Grade II listed fort situated off the Pembrokeshire coast.

This unique project involves the careful preservation and repair of historic fabric while reimagining the building as the ultimate party retreat. Our role included detailed heritage analysis, sensitive design interventions, coordination with conservation specialists, and strategic planning to overcome logistical challenges posed by its remote island location.

Through intelligent spatial design, sustainable restoration methods, and a respect for the site’s military history, the project aims to bring new life to this extraordinary landmark—creating an unforgettable private home and entertainment venue without compromising its historic significance.

Cleveland Lakes

FIVE provide masterplanning services for complex, landscape-led projects such as the proposed redevelopment of Cleveland Lakes in Wiltshire, where a nature reserve meets a new leisure and education hub.

The vision brings together rowing, canoeing, outdoor learning, and nature study in a way that enhances both visitor experience and ecological value. Our approach integrates sensitive environmental design with thoughtful spatial planning, ensuring that new facilities—such as boathouses, classrooms, trails, and viewing areas—sit harmoniously within the existing landscape.

By balancing recreational opportunities with habitat protection and long-term sustainability, the masterplan aims to create a vibrant, multifunctional destination that supports community wellbeing, increases biodiversity, and celebrates the unique character of this lakeside setting.
